Travelling to the Bala Lake Railway

Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) is headquartered at Llanuwchllyn, at the South-Western end of Llyn Tegid/Bala Lake. The railway runs along the Southern shoreline of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) in North Wales.

Llanuwchllyn

Llanuwchllyn is just off the A494 at the South-Western end of the lake (follow the signs). Ample free car parking is available within the station site. Turning and parking facilities for pre-booked coach parties can also be provided.

Bala Station

Bala (Penybont) is the North-Eastern terminus and is situated about 1/2 mile from the centre of Bala town just off the B4391. Apart from a simple waiting shelter, there are no passenger facilities at Bala station. Parking is restricted to narrow on-road parking.

Travel by Bus

The nearest bus stop to Llanuwchllyn Station is 200m distant and at the junction of Station Road and the main road through the village. Bus services are provided by Arriva Cymru service 94 running between Wrexham and Barmouth. Frequency is approximately every two and a half hours on weekdays and there is one suitable journey on Sundays. The same service serves Bala town.

Travel by Train

The nearest railway stations are Ruabon, on the Shrewsbury to Chester line and Barmouth on the Cambrian Coast Line. Weekday services to Ruabon run hourly for some parts of the day then two hourly. Weekday services to Barmouth run at approximately two hourly frequencies weekdays. The Bala Lake Railway is approximately a 50km bus journey (Service 94) from Ruabon and Barmouth.
