Two great family shows on one weekend at either end of the railway, and the best way to get from one to the other is by train, plus a connecting bus service.

Blue timetable applies Saturday.

Special timetable with extra trains on Sunday & Monday so you won't need to wait long for a train.

Bala Model Railway Show: at Ysgol y Berwyn Secondary School in Bala from Saturday 28th May to Monday 30th May.

Opening times: Saturday 11:30 – 5:00pm, Sunday 10:30 – 5:00pm, Monday 10:30 – 4:00pm.

Admission: Adult £4.00, accompanied children free.

Over 10 layouts in various scales and gauges from ‘N’ Gauge to G scale, plus a Playmobile Layout for our younger visitors.

Trade stands and refreshments available.

Parking at the school, also Council Car parks nearby.

Free routemaster bus connecting trains at Bala station with car parks and the Model Railway Show.


Festival of TransportBala Lake Festival of Transport: next door to the railway at Llanuwchllyn station, Sunday 29th May and Monday 30th May.

Admission: Adult £5.00, Children under 16 £3.00, Family (2A+2C) £12.00

The Festival will feature a selection of vintage and classic tractors, motorbikes, cars, rally cars, stationary engines, classic Landrovers, fairground, military and large scale models.

Trade stands and refreshments available.

Car parking for the Festival of Transport will be in Llanuwchllyn Village with a free shuttle bus to the show.

Please note parking at the station will be for railway passengers only.

Classic Commercial Vehicle Rally - July 30th & 31st

Classic Commercial Vehicle Rally at Llanuwchllyn and Bala.

Displays of Vintage buses and other commercial vehicles, plus excursions by train and vintage bus on a circular tour to Llyn Celyn reservoir.

Barbeque Specials - August 6th & 18th

A very pleasant way to spend the evening on a return journey by steam departing Llanuwchllyn at 6:30pm.

Stop for a barbeque at Llangower and watch the sun going down across the lake. Pre-booking required.

Race the Train - August 20th

"Race the train" with a twist!

Paddleboarders race the train along the length of the lake.

Last year the train won, but only just!

Travel on the train to watch the event and cheer the paddleboarders on.

Train departs Llanuwchllyn 5:30pm.

Diana at BalaSteam Gala - 26th to 29th August

We're celebrating "Diana's" first season with us with a steam gala where she will be joined by all the other engines in steam.

Our special guest will be Quarry Hunslet "Velinheli" visiting us from the Launceston Railway.

We are planning a busy timetable featuring lots of activity, passenger and demonstration freight trains.

Halloween Trains - October 28th & 29th

Our Halloween Trains will depart from Llanuwchllyn at 4.30, 5.30 and 6.30, please note that it is not possible to board these trains at any other station

Santa's Annual Visit - December 10th & 11th

Santa visits the railway

The Bala Lake Railway is pleased to announce that Santa Claus has accepted our invitation to visit Llanuwchllyn on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December 2016.

Trains will be hauled by two of our steam locomotives, suitably decorated. All trains will depart from Llanuwchllyn Station on a journey down the line to Santa’s grotto where the children will meet Santa and receive a gift.

Advance booking is essential to avoid disappointment, further details will be published here in mid-2016.
