Bala Lake Railway - 2016 Special Events
Classic Commercial Vehicle Rally - July 30th & 31st
We very much regret to announce that due to circumstances beyond our control the advertised Classic Commercial Vehicles Rally planned for the 30th and 31st July has now been cancelled. Re-development work will be taking place during the summer at the venue that had been agreed for the rally and the extent of this work wasn’t foreseen when the venue agreed to our request. We have been unable to find an alternative venue suitable for the rally so it is with regret that we are forced to cancel the event.
However some of the owners who had agreed to attend will be bringing their vehicles to our steam gala over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The displays will not be as extensive as was planned for the rally due to space constraints, but will give visitors a flavour of the event, which we hope will be able to take place next year.
A very pleasant way to spend the evening on a return journey by steam departing from Llanuwchllyn at 6:30pm.
Stop for a barbeque at Llangower and watch the sun going down across the lake. Pre-booking is required.
Enjoy an evening return trip by steam train along the full length of the line from Llanuwchllyn to Bala and back stopping off by the lake at Llangower to enjoy a burger or hot dog. We’ve often found that the views from the railway are enhanced in the evening by the glow of the sun gently dropping across the lake and setting behind the mountains, and this is an ideal chance to share in this experience.
The train departs Llanuwchllyn at 6:30pm, and the schedule is slightly relaxed returning between 8:15pm and 8:45pm depending on how we all feel.
Tickets are now available online – click on the ticket icon above, which will take you to our ticketing page, and select the Barbecue Train option.
Adult tickets are £8.00, children (3-15) are £3.00, and there is no charge for under 3’s. The prices do not include food which is ordered separately on the evening. We request that passengers arrive by around 6:00pm to place orders and take their seats. The menu will include a hotdog or a burger with relish and salad, or a vegetarian option, with prices at around £5.00.
Due to food hygiene regulations, this event is professionally catered.
We are pleased to announce that “Alice the Little Welsh Engine” from Pauline Hazlewood’s charming series of books will be running on Saturday 13th August. The beautifully illustrated children’s book tells the true story of Alice, now permanently based at the Bala Lake Railway, and how she was the last engine to be rescued and brought down from Dinorwic slate quarry in Llanberis.
Meet the author, and join in with various activities
Pauline will be at the railway all day bringing out the creative talent in her young audience and signing copies of her books, including her latest new book about a little engine called Peter Pan. All the engines in service that day will be wearing faces just like in the books.
